“Tender” is the project I did for Bangkok Photography Workshop in 2007, organized by James Nachtwey and David Alan Harvey. The massages I observed did show some kind of pain but people who went through the process got out with lesser pain and seemed to be satisfied. I call this act “the pain of pleasure” and with this photo series I offer a glimpse of the art of traditional massage.

Sacred Skin–Thailand’s Spirit Tattoos The ARTE documentary about Sacred Skin, my photo book (co-written with Tom Vater) on Thailand’s sacred tattoos is online now. Directed by Marc Eberle, featuring photographer James Nachtwey, tattoo master Achan Neng Onnut and the authors.

This short documentary was originally broadcast in France and Germany in September 2011.
